Middle Mile Cessation Announcement

Electric energy is a critical piece of doing business in today’s world. We recognize the importance of fiber as the communications backbone for modernization of the electric system. As a driver of innovation, Seven States Power Corporation undertook the ambitious task to lead efforts to build a Valley-wide Middle Mile Network in 2020.

Many LPCs across the Valley supported the project and saw value in sharing in the ownership of a private carrier grade fiber network. However, due to the vast coverage area, significant gaps emerged between LPCs creating financial and interconnection challenges. Consequently, the project was paused in May 2024. The Seven States board of directors remains committed to reevaluating the viability of the project for a time in the future alongside the 37 LPCs who were early adopters to this important initiative.

Seven States remains vigilant, as ever, in leading efforts to increase understanding, capacity, and best practices for expansion of the Middle Mile Network as a key component of the grid of the future.
