Seven States Partners with UT & UTC For EV Charging Study

Chattanooga, TN – April 18, 2024


Seven States Power Corporation has recently partnered with the University of Tennessee, in both their Knoxville and Chattanooga campuses, for a study on the real-world impact of electric vehicle charging on the power grid.


While the data is new and still being analyzed, the current findings show that EV drivers who are using Tennessee Valley charging stations come from across the entire United States, and not just from the local population. This has already had a positive effect on local communities as EV charging revenue is collected, and it is projected that it will have a larger and continuing impact as more of our nation’s drivers make the switch to electric vehicles.


“The grid of the future is changing. It’s important that we analyze real-time data to determine the impact of EVs on the Valley and how to best plan for infrastructure to support it. We’re excited to partner with the University of Tennessee and UT Chattanooga in a collaborative effort to learn how to move the Valley forward,” says President and CEO Betsey Kirk McCall.


The study is also looking at the viability of EV-charging sites over a 5-year period. The findings of this study will be published in more depth upon its conclusion.
