Seven States Holds Cyber Security Awareness Webinar for Member-Owners
April 17, 2022

Thank you to our member-owners and panelists who joined our 2022 cyber security webinar last month. The webinar built on our 2020 cyber security awareness series , which focused on the identify function of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cyber Security Framework and introduced tools from the American Public Power Association (APPA) and National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) that local power companies can use to perform cyber security assessments.

In PART II, we focused on the detect and protect functions of the cyber security framework. Experts from Intuitive Research and Technologies, Huntsville Utilities, the TVA, and NRECA discussed their experience utilizing managed security service providers and efforts underway to establish an LPC-focused shared security service in our region.

“As our member-owner’s operational and enterprise networks expand, so do the efforts of activists trying to break in and cripple the critical infrastructure running the economic and social engine of the Tennessee Valley that our members provide,” said Lance Irwin, Vice President of Partnerships and Project Development for Seven States. “The effort required to detect threats and protect networks is becoming more challenging for in-house resources alone. That’s why we leveraged our relationships with local and national resources for this webinar to help our members confidently evaluate options for augmenting their own efforts.”

For more information or to schedule a one-on-one meeting to discuss these topics, please contact Lance Irwin at lirwin@7spc.com.
